    Artisul D13 Drawing Tablet Review

Portability in the Graphic Tablet world has always been an exciting feature since it provides a level of freedom and practicality many artists have been dreaming of for years.

The technology was available to consumers with the Wacom Cintiq 12WX many years back but the need to plug the device to a wall outlet defied the purpose completely.

We only started to see decent alternatives in the past couple years with the truly portable Wacom Companion/Cintiq 13HD, Microsoft Surface and just recently, a new arrival called the Artisul D13.

We recently did a full review of the new device - let's take a look...

    Price: $599

    Pros

    • Cheaper than the Cintiq 13HD @ $799
    • Looks great, well built
    • Good quality 13.3" IPS display
    • Portable with only one USB 3.0 port needed for power
    • Replaceable screen protective film
    • Light build
    • Lot of programmable buttons
    • Screen (& buttons) can be rotated

    Cons

    • Plastic film easily damaged with sharp objects
    • Drivers initially had problems but were fixed with a recent update (hard to say if it's fixed for everyone)
    • No HDMI to Mini Display Port adapter included (extra expense in our case)
    • No eraser on pen

We initially had issues with the drivers being unable to calibrate the screen and customize the hotkeys which was a pretty big problem, but the drivers have since been updated and are now working properly on our test machine.

It's great to know that UCLogic the company behind the Artisul are responsive to feedback and quickly addressing issues.

If there are any issues with the screen protector, we have been told they will replace it within 30 days of purchase after which a new one will have to be purchased separately. You are free to use any kind of screen protector however so this might allow customers to use the exact surface that they want to draw on. Not a bad idea!

What do you think of this new contender?

Is Wacom finally getting solid competition?
