We LOVE hand-painted textures here at Cubebrush - some insiders will know why! Every time we see a new hand-painted asset on the marketplace we can't help but start giggling uncontrollably. It combines perfectly what we are all about - 2D and 3D art.

This makes today's interview particularly fun since we get to chat with Antonio Neves, an extremely talented 3D artist focused on hand-painted assets.

Scroll down for the full interview and to get a glance at some of his work - gorgeous stuff. It goes without saying that you should also check out his Cubebrush store to find more of it!

    Q. Initially, what made you want to become an artist, when was the moment you realized this is what you wanted to do?

    A. Initially I didn't worked in games, when I learned 3D modeling I got my first job to do advertisements with 3D packages in realistic style. I spent about five year doing these kinds of jobs, but I didn't like it, what I really wanted was to work in games. Finally I decided to stop what I was doing and start to study game art, then, I got some jobs in small companies in my city, but just modeling - no painting. After some time I decided to learn how to hand-paint and finally I got my first freelance gig out of my country. Since that day I never stop to learn and work for companies around the world.

    Q. Where did your hand-painted originate from?

    A. My is inspired by many companies and artists but the main inspiration comes from Blizzard. I think it's not a surprise to say that I used to play the old games from the company and i always loved the style. It's not too cartoon nor too realistic, that's what I like.

    Q. What does your daily routine look like?

    A. My routine is organized, but not too tight, I work from home, usually I work for more than one company at a time. I try to separate the times of the day, something like, in the morning job1 and afternoon job 2, and then at night I use the time to study and work on my personal projects. The weekends are lighter, usually I work, but also I spend time watching some movies or hanging out with my friends.

    Q. Sweet or salty?

    A. Ohh this is a hard question... I think salty is better, I'm not a fat person, but my mind works like a fat guy, I love pizzas and hamburgers, I know, it's not good, but I can't resist.

    Q. How did you get into selling your 3D assets?

    A. Initially I had no idea what I was doing, but I decided to sell some assets to get a little bit more money.

    Q. What do you want to be doing in 5 years?

    A. Well, in five years there's one thing for sure - I want to learn much more and improve my skills, this is a fact. About what to do, it's hard to say, I don't know even where I will be tomorrow... I'm not sure, maybe in some big company, or still working from home, both sound good to me.

    Q. Lastly, do you have one big important tip for young artists?

    A. Yes, I like to help everyone who ask me something, and try to give good feedback. I think a good tip is love what you do. If you love something you will do it better, after the love you need to study everyday - a lot, try to follow the artists you like and learn from them. The main key is practice though, always.
