In Slavic mythology Kikimora is a feminine spirit of the house, also known as Shishimora and sometimes presented as the wife of Domovoi. Kikimoras would be the spirits of unbaptized children.
She is represented as an average woman with loose hair (married Slavic women keep their hair covered and the girls keep them braided). She can also be described as a hunchbacked little woman in a dirty dress.
It is said that Kikimora will take care of the barnyard and housework if the house is well kept. Otherwise, she will whistle at night and tickle the kids by making them whine. It is also said that she also goes out at night to spin and that a person who sees her spinning will die soon.
To soothe an angry Kikimora, all pots and pans should be washed with fern tea.
She usually lives behind the stove or in the cellar of the house she haunts.
Kikimora can also be found in a swamp or forest.
