The search for potions was one of the practices of ancient alchemy. In legends, a potion is brewed to help or bewitch people. Several versions of the "love potion" are known from fiction or mythology, in which a person under its effects would fall in love with another, with classic references such as the tales of Tristan and Isolde, alluded to by Richard Wagner in his homonymous opera; there are also "sleeping potions", the elixirs (as in the C.S. Lewis stories from the series "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe"). In Harry Potter, Severus Snape is known as the "Potions Master" ("Potions Master"). He is one of the main characters in the books in the series.
