Why Your Products Aren’t Selling (and How to Fix It)

You’ve got your storefront on Cubebrush on point, you’ve announced on social, and the digital art assets you’ve put your blood, sweat, and tears into are up for sale. Here we go!

    And… nothing.

Sales are dead, and you have no idea what the problem is. Did you misjudge the community? Should you be marketing harder? Is your product broken?

Are you not cut out for this?

OK—just breathe. It can feel completely deflating when your latest digital art product isn’t selling. But we have some good news!

It’s probably not any of the above, and there are some practical starting points for converting your latest uploads into downloads. Check it out.

For more check out this guide on how to make money on Cubebrush.

    1. Take a Look at Your Pricepoint

When products aren’t selling as you anticipated, it’s natural to freak out a little and overcorrect. Was that brush set really worth the $18 you were hoping?

Maybe not—but that doesn’t mean it’s worth squat.

It’s always worth hopping back on Cubebrush and scanning the products that are similar to what you’re selling. It may be that there are better price comparisons for what you’re selling than you initially picked.

When reevaluating your pricepoint, consider the following:

    • Who will be using this? If your buyers know exactly what they’re looking for, you might need to dial in your product comparisons.
    • How will they be using it? Quick and dirty vs. high art are very different audiences.
    • What do they want? Are they trading cash for hassle, or is this a forever tool?

Then, take a close look at your competitors and look for products that are very similar to what you’re selling.

Pro tip: If you’re not sure how to set your price, look at the top and bottom numbers and set yours at 70% of the max. That way, you’re not making the biggest ask, but you also look confident in your value.

    2. Dial in Your Thumbnails & Previews

A picture is worth a thousand words—to civilians. Artists are going to be extremely critical and reactionary to your preview pics.

And they’re not looking for what’s right.

One of the biggest mistakes sellers on Cubebrush make is not investing enough time and energy into creating dazzling previews that sell their products. These images should tell a vibrant story about the results users can get, the ease of use, and anything else that’s relevant to a potential buyer.

    Best Practices for Writing Descriptions

    • Be brief. Avoid walls of text—3-4 sentences max in each paragraph.
    • Cover the essentials. Include exactly what this product will deliver, including platforms, asset counts, resolution, etc.
    • Highlight value. Does it speed up your workflow? Give you a perfect texture? How will this make your life better?

    Best Practices for Images

    • High res. It’s always better to get a great image with vivid colors than a basic screenshot.
    • Make a splash. Selling action reference pics? Make sure your feature image tells that story at a glance.
    • Don’t skimp on thumbnails. Thumbnails are where artists start exploring once they are intrigued enough to scroll. Selling brushes? Showcase all the techniques!
    • Place text artfully. Make sure any text you add isn’t covering your artwork. Keep descriptions short and on the margins of your images.

Pro tip: Your featured image gets a buyer’s attention, but thumbnails are your salespeople. A customer who’s scrolling needs a trail of breadcrumbs leading to a sale.

    3. Offer a Promotion

It can be difficult to get your product into the hands of artists if there’s a lot of competition or you’re new to the space.

That’s why Cubebrush gives you a lot of options for offering discount codes and free products.

Especially if you’re feeling like you might have overpriced your product, offering a discount to your followers or on social media is a great way to get some valuable feedback. If you feel like you were a little high, offer a 10-20% promo code and see what happens.

If it starts selling, fantastic! Consider a price adjustment and see if that changes the game.

A more advanced strategy is offering a free product as an introduction to your store. Pick something that was easy to make but gives people something fun to play with, and get it out there!

Pro tip: Don’t offer your best asset for free unless it’s a limited promo for artists who might give you some great feedback. Rather, think about something that offers enticing value and gives users a taste of what you’re all about.
